Death by hot pepper is not as uncommon as you may think. The hottest pepper in human history has recently been discovered. It's called 'Dragon's Breath'. The Bhut Jolokia (Ghost pepper) is also among the hottest peppers in the world. The Ghost pepper is almost 500 times hotter than the Jalapeño pepper. However, Dragon's Breath is 3 times as hot as a Ghost pepper! That's 1500 times the spice of a Jalapeño!!
The human immune system is trained to defend itself against capsaicin (the spice component of a pepper). In extreme cases, the body forms blisters in the areas that are exposed to a pepper to reduce the burning effect. If the pepper is too hot, the body goes into overdrive and consuming Dragon's Breath could ultimately lead to death.
