Spooky Spicy Saucy Halloween

For a lot of people, spice is really scary. But do you want to hear something even more spooky? Death by hot pepper is not as uncommon as you may think. The hottest pepper in human history has recently been discovered. It's called 'Dragon's Breath'. The Bhut Jolokia (Ghost pepper) is also among the hottest peppers in the world. The Ghost pepper is almost 500 times hotter than the Jalape ñ o pepper. However, Dragon's Breath is 3 times as hot as a Ghost pepper! That's 1500 times the spice of a Jalape ño!! The human immune system is trained to defend itself against capsaicin (the spice component of a pepper). In extreme cases, the body forms blisters in the areas that are exposed to a pepper to reduce the burning effect. Hot Pepper Garden

Over the past month, I (Anna) planted seedlings for our pepper garden. We are growing red thai chilis, anaheims, jalapenos, and habaneros. The garden is going to take up about half of our back yard. We are hoping that by the fall, we will have grown enough peppers to support our new supply of hot sauce! Be ready for more updates!

Garden Success

I (Anna) feel so proud of my hot pepper garden especially the jalapeno selection. There is something so satisfying about being in charge of growing a plant (multiple plants) because sometimes you fail and plants die but when you succeed it is one of the most rewarding experiences. I would like to say that I am a proud mama :) and I hope for many successful gardens to come!
